Phifer was the scene of a lovely shower given for Misses Cora W. and Margaret Clark, whose double wedding- has been an nounced to take place September 6. The guests were received by Mrs. Phifer, Mrs. Peterson and Miss Phifer, and were presented attractive tally cards. The guests then found their places for progressive games. NEGROES APPEAL | SI | Uim FOR FTER CONDITION Conference of Leaders Send Res olution to General Assembly of Cracker State ATLANTA, July 5.—Negroes as a race do not desire to leave Georgia and the touth and the remedy for existing con ditions is in the hands of the white man. according to a communication da riressed to the general assembly and the people of Georgia, adopted at a state-wide conference of leaders of the negro race here yesterday. The center- , cnce was presided over by Bishop J. S. Flipper of the Afrioan Methodist Epls-j copal church of Atlanta. While declaring1 his opposition to any migration ‘of the negro. Bishop Flipper said he did believe the negro, as well as any other race, ought to have the right to scatter to all parts of the union. The bishop,, as ■well as other speakers, branded "soolal equal ity” and “negro supremacy” as buga boos crated by political-demagogues.” The communication, which is suppos ed to have been printed for distribution to members of the legislature and throughout the state generally, ssets forth the evils which thd negroes claim they labor under in this state. These incli de low wages for farm labor, joor housinng conditions, bad working con ditions on plantations managed by overseers in the absence of the owners, lack of educational facilities, poor ac commodation for negroes when travel ing, inequality in the enforcement of laws, the contract labor law, the repeal of which is raked, and mob violenoe. The legislature was urged to pass an anti-lynohing law, several speakers de claring they would prefer to see such a law on the state statutes than have itpassed by the federal government You Know a Tonic la Good ATTENTION JUNIORS All members of George Washington Council No- *7, Jr. O.
